The 12 vital Cell Salts

Biochemic cell salts are remedies based on inorganic salts. Tissue salt tablets Inorganic salts were first used as homeopathic remedies by Samuel Hahnemann, and further developed by Dr. Willhelm Heinrich Schuessler (1821-1898) who identified 12 different salts in human tissue, and concluded that they are important mineral constitiuents that are present in human cells. He also stated that if an imbalance were to occur, sickness may follow.

There is no established evidence for this in modern medicine. He ascribed a specific purpose to each one of the 12 salts, based on his understading of their biochemical purpose. However, since his original work, the understanding of the role of minerals in the body has undergone great advances, making his disease and deficiency model obsolete. He also performed clinical experiments in the form of homeopathic “provings”.

The twelve salts described by Schuessler, together with the abbreviated names under which they are sold, are:

N° 1 – Calcium Fluoride 12X
Calcium is mainly located in the bones. Fluorine can be found in the whole organism but 96% are stocked in the bones…

N° 2 – Calcium Phosphate 6X
In the human organism, phosphorus can be found mainly in the skeleton. But it is also contained in the blood. Phosphorus is an important component of the living cell.

N° 3 – Calcium Sulphate 6X
In comparison to the other cell salts this salt has got a small area of application. Since it has got a solving and excreting effect on the mucous membranes it serves well at the following areas.

N° 4 – Ferrum Phosphate 12X
Iron is represented in the human organism with 4 – 5 g. The largest part of this accounts for the hemoglobin (coloring of the red blood cells) and the muscle coloring myoglobin. These matters are important for the transport of oxygen, as is generally known.

N° 5 – Kalium Chloride 6X
Kalium is represented in the blood serum with 15 – 21 mg%. It plays a role with the excitability of muscle and nerve cells.

N° 6 – Kalium Phosphate 6X
We find Kalium Phosphate in brain, and nerve cells, in the muscles, and in the lymph.

N° 7 – Kalium Sulphate 6X
Kalium Sulphate is mainly contained in the epidermis and in the mucous membranes. Besides Ferrum Phosphate it is the main oxygen carrier within the cells.

N° 8 – Magnesium Phosphate 6X
Magnesium is represented in the human body with 25 mg. Two thirds of this is in the bones. But magnesium also exists in the muscular tissue, kidneys, liver, thyroid gland, red blood cells, as well as in the brain.

N° 9 – Natrium Chloride 6X
In the organism, Natrium regulates the water balance. Indicators for Natrium deficit can be

N° 10 – Natrium Phosphate 6X
Natrium Phosphate can be found in the whole human organism. Dr Schuessler ascribed great importance to it with regard to the carbonic exchange of the blood…

N° 11 – Natrium Sulphate 6X
This is about sulfuric Natrium. Metabolic waste products are removed from the organism.

N° 12 – Silicea 12X
Silicea exists in every human cell. The exceedingly large sphere of this salt results from that.

Dr. Schuessler believed that the balance of these twelve mineral salts could be restored by ingesting “cell salts” in a bioavailable form. He claimed that these minerals needed not so much to be “replaced” as the cells needed to be prompted by the cell salts to restore balance of the essential components.

His studies began as the investigation of cremated bodies during which he discovered that the twelve substances accounted for the majority of what remained. Cell salts are generally considered a homeopathic remedy.
